KPW Girls 12UB finishes second in state tournament

The King Philip Walpole Youth Hockey Girls 12UB team finished a strong run in the Mass Hockey Tier IV tournament by finishing second in the state after a 4-0 loss to Andover Sunday at the Canton Ice House.

The KPW Girls 12UB team opened the Tier IV tournament with a 4-1 win over Hanover Friday night at the Canton Ice House, then Saturday turned into a day of emotional swings: KPW dropped a 2-1 shootout loss to Norwood, and then held a 2-1 lead in the final minute of its final pool game before giving up the game-tying goal with 15 seconds left and eventually dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Andover. KPW needed Hanover to beat Norwood in the final pool game Saturday evening, and KPW got exactly what it needed to advance to the state title game when Hanover held on for a 1-0 win.

KPW battled hard in the state championship game, but Andover opened a 2-0 first-period lead and held on to capture the title.

Congratulations to all our players, coaches and families!
